Skills learned while caring for my parents’ ending January 2013
Housekeeping, running errands, meal preparation, personal care, transportation, writer for mail, basic exercise, household safety, dressing, assisted with doctor appointments, bathing
Preformed in home: Bandage changes with gloves on, ointment application (with swabs, cotton balls, or gauze), medication (pill) splitting and crushing of self-administered prescriptions
In home equipment used: Wheel chair rental, cane, shower chair, commode, humidifier, inhaling machines (for medication, humidity, and oxygen), GI feeding system for nutrition, gravity flow I.V., C. A. D. D. pump I.V., suction machine
In Home Supportive Services January 2005 to January 2013
The In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program provides services to people over 65 years of age, blind and disabled. The goal of this program is to allow people to remain safely in their own homes and avoid the need for out of home care.
Services covered: meal preparation, and cleanup, feeding, bowel and bladder care, bathing, oral hygiene, grooming, dressing, laundry, shopping for food
 
Domestic services: sweeping, vacuuming, washing, and waxing floors; washing kitchen counters, and sinks; cleaning the bathroom; storing food and supplies; taking out garbage; dusting and picking up; changing bed linens
